The Ministry of Health (ministry) and the Ontario Medical Association are subject to a Binding Arbitration Award. As part of this award, implementation is underway for the retroactive compensation adjustment for all physician payments for fiscal year 2017/18. There is a further retroactive compensation adjustment for fiscal year 2018/19. The ministry is in the process of calculating the compensation adjustments by specialty.

At the present time, the ministry estimates issuing one-time payments in the following timelines:

  • 2017/18 payments – December 2019
  • 2018/19 payments – April 2020

Payments are scheduled to be made on the above timelines due to the complexity of using a relativity-based method for determining physician compensation increases for past payments owing, which is the first time the ministry has used this methodology. Physician payments span multiple areas and need to be collected from external partners such as LHINs, hospitals and other ministries in order to arrive at a comprehensive calculation.

Where payments to individual physicians can be identified (whether originally made directly to the individual physician or paid to a group), these retroactive payments will be made to individual physician bank accounts.

For payments to be accurately processed and to avoid delays, please update your individual banking information with the ministry as necessary. Please note it may take up to 30 days to process updated banking information.

If you are currently receiving payments from the ministry directly to your individual bank account, no action is required.

In order to change your banking information, please complete and sign the Application for OHIP Direct Bank Payment for Health Care Professionals form 7698-84.

Please submit the form with a void cheque.
