Health Minister Seeks Input on Changes to Regulation
of Health Care Providers February 2, 2009
The Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) recently submitted further advice to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care :
In developing this report, HPRAC examined other jurisdictions, reviewed written submissions and published literature, interviewed experts and held public meetings and roundtables in six Ontario communities. Changes to the regulation of health professionals that protect Ontarians and improve access to care are part of the McGuinty government’s HealthForceOntario health human resources strategy. The Minister is now seeking public input on the recommendations in this report. The Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) recently submitted five reports to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
In developing these reports, HPRAC examined other jurisdictions, reviewed written submissions and published literature, interviewed experts and held public meetings and roundtables in six Ontario communities. Changes to the regulation of health professionals that protect Ontarians and improve access to care are part of the McGuinty government’s HealthForceOntario health human resources strategy. The Minister is now seeking public input on the recommendations in these reports. In addition, the Minister is looking for input on who may use the title “Doctor” when delivering healthcare to Ontarians.
