Subject

Schedule of Benefits Changes Resulting From Bill 105 - Effective September 1, 2003

The amendments to the Health Protection and Promotion Act resulting from Bill 105 provide a statutory right to certain applicants (including victims of crime, emergency service workers, good Samaritans) to ask a Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for an Order to take a sample of another person’s blood, in order to test for potential exposure to certain communicable diseases, including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS).

The intent of the amendments resulting from the Bill is to enable individuals who have been exposed to blood or bodily fluids to determine whether or not the individual they were exposed to is infected with certain blood borne pathogens and thereby determine the level of risk to their health.

The ministry is introducing the following change in the Schedule of Benefits for Physician Services in order to facilitate the procedures set out in Bill 105:

Effective September 1, 2003 a new fee code (K031) is introduced into the Consultations and Visits Section of the Schedule of Benefits for Physician Services to allow physicians to submit a claim for completing the Physician Report in accordance with Section 22.1 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

The following text will be inserted on page A13 of the Consultations and Visits section of the Schedule of Benefits:
