NEWS

Ontario is moving ahead with a family health hub for Orléans under the leadership of Hôpital Montfort. This is a bold new venture offering a variety of health services under one roof so community residents will get to access the best care, closer to home.

A $100,000 capital planning grant is being provided to Hôpital Montfort to develop a detailed proposal and business case which will help to carry the vision forward.

The Ontario government is also giving $300,000 to the Orléans Urgent Care Clinic to support nursing services to help the clinic stabilize its services and help pave the way for future integration into the proposed health hub.

At the centre of the hub will be a new Family Health Team. Ontario is awarding the first of its 50 new Family Health Teams to Orléans. These teams provide comprehensive care, tailored to the community, by bringing together doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, health promoters and other health care providers. The team approach provides high quality care, including chronic disease management.

The expansive health centre would also be home to a range of new diagnostic, treatment and community health services, and consolidate some ambulatory health services already provided through Hôpital Montfort in Orléans.

QUOTES

“This new family health hub will go a long way to providing more accessible and timely health care to the residents of Orléans, closer to home,” said George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. “We want to ensure that patients are at the centre of health care. And team-based care is the emerging face of health in Ontario.”

“We are delighted that the government is supporting a proposal for a new family health centre,” said Gerald Savoie, CEO of Hôpital Montfort. “This is an innovative solution that would give our community members enhanced access to the care that they need.”

"Over the past year, I have been working closely with the various partners on this proposal to bring a family health centre to the Orléans area," said Phil McNeely, MPP for Ottawa-Orleans. "The momentum, the vision, the desire and the determination of all the partners to bring better health care to the community has made this centre a reality. This is just the beginning for better health care in Orléans."
