February 28, 2008 TORONTO – The McGuinty government is appointing Graham Scott – a former Deputy Minister of Health – as an investigator to report on the management and governance of Kingston General Hospital, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced today. “As investigator, Graham Scott will examine and review how the hospital is managed and governed,” Smitherman said. “Our government wants to ensure Kingston-area residents continue to have confidence in the operations of Kingston General Hospital. KGH has signaled its inability to operate within the envelope they agreed to. It’s our responsibility to find out why. Graham Scott’s experience will help us meet the needs of this community.” Scott will work closely with the hospital, community, key stakeholders and the South East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). He will review and report on the management and governance of the hospital including the :
“I look forward to working with the staff and board of Kingston General Hospital and the South East LHIN to seek solutions to the governance and management challenges they are facing,” said Graham Scott. “Together we will work to ensure that the hospital continues to provide quality health services to the people of Kingston and Southeastern Ontario.” Scott, currently the chair of the Canadian Institute for Health Information, has previously looked into the processes of more than 40 hospitals. As investigator, Scott will provide regular updates to the ministry and South East LHIN and will submit a report to the minister upon completion of his duties.
