Roles and Responsibilities

The Ontario Citizens’ Council is a major component of the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act, (2006). As a Council appointed by the Government and accountable to the Executive Officer and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the 25 member Citizens’ Council will discuss and provide their opinions on values that reflect their needs, culture and attitudes as Ontarians. Citizens' Council members have been appointed by the minister, through the Public Appointments Secretariat, following a recruitment process established by an independent advisory body.

The Citizens’ Council will discuss and respond to questions or topics posed to its members by the Executive Officer, and make a report to the Executive Officer of the Ontario Public Drug Programs and the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
