The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is offering 20 third-year family medicine re-entry positions and 20 specialty re-entry positions for currently practicing Canadian physicians. To be eligible you must:

  1. hold a current unrestricted certificate of registration for independent practice from your provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons; AND

  2. have practiced in your home province for a minimum of 6 months.

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

For Family Physicians or General Practitioners, the ministry is interested in those wishing to pursue:

  • a third-year family medicine program in emergency medicine, anesthesia or care of the elderly. The ministry will also consider applications in mental health, women's health, palliative care, surgical skills and obstetrical skills, if the physician can document, satisfactorily, the need for these skills in specific rural/northern communities; OR

  • a specialty program in general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, general internal medicine, psychiatry, anesthesia, orthopedic surgery, diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, laboratory medicine and community medicine. Other specialties may be considered if the applicant can provide evidence of a defined need in a specified community. Specialty training will be for the duration necessary to meet the qualifications for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certifications.

For Specialists, the ministry is interested in those wishing to pursue :

-   up to two years of family medicine training leading to certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The length of training required is to be determined in consultation with a Family Medicine Program Director;   OR
