Strengthening Transparency and Accountability

The government has moved forward with several important initiatives that improve the accountability and transparency of the system, give patients and citizens a say and involve pharmacists in shaping policy.

  • Establishing formal governance principles to improve transparency and accountability, through the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act, 2006

  • Appointing an Executive Officer to manage the publicly-funded drug system, including making listing decisions, publicly communicating listing decisions and working more closely with stakeholders
