Ontario's Critical Care Strategy is the result of an on-going collaboration between critical care healthcare providers, hospital administrators, ministry officials and others.
The overarching objective of the strategy is to improve access, quality and the overall health system by addressing the policy and operational issues that contribute to wait times for critical care across the system.
The strategy is comprised of seven closely linked initiatives, which have been developed as a result of extensive research into the work taking place in other jurisdictions:

  • Critical Care Response Teams (CCRT)
  • Critical Care Capacity Management and Surge Planning
  • Health Human Resources
  • System-Level Training
  • Critical Care Information System (CCIS)
  • Performance Improvement Collaborative
  • Ethical Issues of Access
