Minister's sector tour

Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, continues to meet with health care organizations to learn more about the great, collaborative work already taking place to support patients and families transitioning from one health care provider to another.

Recently, she met with health sector partners in Orangeville, Burlington, Toronto, Ottawa, Barrie and Muskoka to learn more about their integrated models and how it has benefited patients, families and caregivers.

Proposed legislation

Ontario has introduced new legislation, The People's Health Care Act, 2019, which, if passed, would enable and support the modernization of Ontario's health care system, and place patients at the centre of service delivery.

On March 5, 2019, the second reading of The People's Health Care Act, 2019, was introduced and is currently being debated.

Patient Declaration of Values for Ontario

Minister Elliott and Julie Drury, Chair of the Minister's Patient and Family Advisory Council, released the Patient Declaration of Values for Ontario. The Declaration of Values provides guidelines for developing programs and services that support patients as being partners in their care across the health care system.
The core elements of the Patient Declaration of Values for Ontario are:

  • respect and dignity
  • empathy and compassion
  • accountability
  • transparency
  • equity and engagement.

As the Government of Ontario moves forward with modernizing and improving health care, the Patient Declaration of Values will help build the foundation of a patient-centred public health care system.

Ontario Health

On March 8, 2019, Minister Elliott moved one step closer to fulfilling the government's commitment to a connected, sustainable public health care system centred around the patient, by announcing the early slate of the Ontario Health Board of Directors.
