Ontario Announces Intent to Appoint Supervisor for the Brant Community Healthcare System

Province Supporting Strong Local Hospital Management and Governance

July 25, 2017

Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, notified the Board Chair of Brant Community Healthcare System of the province’s intent to appoint a hospital supervisor.

If the Lieutenant Governor in Council accepts the recommendation, the hospital supervisor would work with the hospital and government to support robust governance and leadership at the facility.

These measures will help ensure sustainable and appropriate oversight of patient care and financial management so that patients continue to receive high-quality care.

Ontario’s intent to appoint a supervisor is based on recommendations from the Investigator’s Report dated June 28, 2017. An investigator was appointed in February to examine and review issues concerning the management and governance at the hospital.

During this time, patient care at the Brant Community Healthcare System will not be affected.
All operations will be ongoing to ensure its patients continue receiving quality health care.

“The appointment of a hospital supervisor at the Brant Community Healthcare System is in the best interest of the local community, and will help strengthen the hospital’s programs and services. We are committed to ensuring that patients continue to receive high quality care and continue to have confidence in their local hospital.”

Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
