Moving Forward with Electronic Health Records

McGuinty Government Keeping Electronic Health Information Secure and Safe

Ontario is proposing a regulatory change that would allow eHealth Ontario to create and maintain electronic health records while keeping Ontarians’ electronic personal health information secure.

The change balances the importance of moving toward fast and efficient e-health records for all Ontarians, while ensuring privacy and confidentiality are at the forefront, by:

The public is invited to comment on the proposed change that will be posted to the Regulatory Registry until April 26, 2011.

This change was developed in consultation with Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner. The Commissioner agrees that these changes will help to protect Ontarians’ sensitive health information.

Investing in electronic health records is part of the Open Ontario plan to modernize the health care system, leading to better patient care and efficient health care service delivery.
